A new project... Fantasy Flight's X-Wing Miniatures

S` All,

Well it looks like we've got a new project starting up.  Due to popular demand, we've decided to go ahead and push forward with our idea of combining Fantasy Flight's X-Wing Miniatures with Crimson Skies.

We already have a frame-work available from our Mobile Suit Gundam mod, so it shouldn't take as long as MSMecha took to create.  (For more information on MSMecha go to http://www.MSMecha.blogspot.com/ ).

Also, please don't forget to check out our Facebook Group!  http://www.facebook.com/groups/BlackJacksHangar/

Please stay tuned...

This is your Captain speaking...

Aloha All, I know it's been a loooong time.... to the point where it doesn't feel like it's 1937 anymore. But, in the Crimson Skies - it's ALWAYS 1937! Anyway, the squadron has been busy playing with multitudes of other games and flight simulators; but just like your first love, you're always looking back at once was. I'm very thankful to say that I've gotten back into the cockpit, but in quite a different way. With HEROCLIX!
Crimson Skies actually started out as a miniatures game from FASA, and we were lucky enough that Microsoft had created the PC version of the game; which in turn introduced me to the alternate universe/dog-fighting/piracy era of 1937. Thankfully, Crimson Skies was picked up temporarily by WizKids in 2003, who are the creators of the table-top game "Heroclix".
Heroclix is best known for the "Super Hero" miniatures game with great comic book heroes such as Spider-man, Superman and Batman; just to name a few. However, the "rules" for Crimson Skies Heroclix are entirely different than the normal Heroclix games with Super Heroes.
Wizkids is incredibly smart in trying to bring all kinds of different genres and movies, etc. to their table-top game. They've created many different sculps (sculptures) for their brand of table-top game. Such as ALIENS vs. PREDATOR.
Recognizing that Heroclix would make an excellent alternative to the FASA game (by using their brand of table-top mechanics and rules), Wizkids created Crimson Skies Heroclix. With the same alternate history, pirate gangs/squadrons and characters as the original (such as Nathan Zachary of The Fortune Hunters, Ghengis Khan of the Red Skull Legion to name a couple), Crimson Skies Heroclix was sure to tap into the heart-strings of those who missed flying in the Crimson Skies of 1937.
Stay tuned... more to come soon. S`

Crimson Skies in CFS2 NOW AVAILABLE for download!

Free Flight and Quick Combat work fine, however the only Missions available is the US Carrier take-off and landing missions as well as the US & Japan training missions and there is no "Campaign" available yet.

The default aircraft is the Hughes P21J Devastator Mk. III, but it can be changed to any aircraft available.

I will be releasing additional repaints in the future for different squads and factions, so stay tuned for updates.

Paint schemes continued...

I finished with the Splash Screens and Menus... now back to paint schemes.  I finished up the Black Swans and Red Skull Legion - now I'm working on the Kingdom of Hawaii Militia.  Getting ahead of schedule... I'm sure I'll have the full game available for download sometime early next week.  :D

Crimson Skies splash screens & menus in CFS2

Opening Splash Screen
I took a little break from creating paint skins (don't worry, I'm going to continue) and started to create some new Crimson Skies splash & menu screens for Combat Flight Simulator 2.

Normally, if I want to fly WWII combat, I'll fly in IL2: 1946.  So there really isn't any need for me to keep any WWII aircraft in my CFS2.  I've decided to make a little project and turn my CFS2 into a Crimson Skies exclusive Combat Flight Simulator.  With that, I'll have to change all the splash screens and menus to reflect Crimson Skies aircraft ONLY.  I kinda got the idea from the Dog Patch Crew who created "Korean Skies" for CFS3.  They made a mod for CFS3 that includes all the aircraft from the Korean War (aka. Mig Alley).

I know this is a big undertaking... but really; what's the option?  Wait for a new Crimson Skies to come out?  I'll give this a try and see how it comes out.  And YES - when it's complete, it'll be available for download FOR FREE.

Here's a couple of menu screens I've made so far.  I've got a long way to go - but these are the ones used the most.  If you have any suggestions or questions - let me know.

Dixie completed

I just completed the "Dixie" paint schemes for the CFS2/Crimson Skies aircraft, which include the J2 Fury, S2B Kestrel, Bloodhawk & Zeppelin Battleship.

I have put them all in one .zip file for convenience; complete aircraft, not just the textures.  Just download, unzip and move to the aircraft folder in Combat Flight Simulator 2.  Click HERE to download them now.

Crimson Skies in Combat Flight Simulator 2

For those of you who just can't seem to get Crimson Skies to work on their computer or want a little more "realism" in their flight models, a fan of Crimson Skies had created a bunch of Crimson Skies aircraft for use in Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2; and they work wonderfully!

So far, the fighter aircraft that are available for download are...
  • P21J Devastator Mk. III (Fortune Hunters & China)... click HERE
  • J2 Fury (Black Swan)... click HERE
  • PR1 Defender (Peoples Collective)... click HERE
  • Bloodhawk (Fortune Hunters & Blake Aviation Security)... click HERE
  • Firebrand (Fortune Hunters & Hollywood Knights)... click HERE
  • Hoplite (Fortune Hunters & Black Hats)... click HERE
  • Peacemaker 370 (British & Blake Aviation Security)... click HERE
  • S2B Kestrel (Fortune Hunters, British, China & Japan) ... click HERE
Three types of Zeppelins are also available to use as "bombers".
  • Zeppelin Battleship (British, Blake Aviation Security, German & Japan)... click HERE
  • Zeppelin Cargo (Generic)... click HERE
  • Zeppelin Escort (British, Blake Aviation Security, German & Japan)... click HERE
I'm probably going to have to create a "Pandora" paint scheme for a Fortune Hunters Zeppelin Battleship sometime soon.

I have created a couple of paint schemes, but there's more coming soon.  After they're completed and tested... I'll upload them and post the links.

BOMB! - Crimson Skies meets Tail Spin

Since it doesn't look like there's going to be a "new" Crimson Skies any time soon... this just might be the fix you're looking for!  I'm definitely going to have to check this one out on Steam soon!
